While Michael Schumacher is !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! from coma, his Doctor informs about the main reason for his nearly deadly trauma, and it's an information to be memorized and well used, since for sure not all helmets were designed and tested to safely carry a Go-Pro.

that article needs a bit more detail as to how the camera itself was responsible for the injury, or if that is even the case. ie, was it the camera mount that was fixed to the helmet? and the helmet was not designed to withstand the concentrated pressure of the mount when impact occurred? this may seem obvious, but i would really be interested in the specifics.

Agreed. Was it mounted incorrectly? What makes a helmet suitable for it? Where should it be mounted for safety? Just saying it was the camera's fault doesn't actually inform the reader anything.

mounting a gopro to your helmet by definition is incorrect

I was just thinking about what that camera might have captured after the fall.

That audio alone has to be heartbreaking.

Why? It's not like it's uncommon to do that.

i think hes saying incorrect for the helmet, not for the camera.

but... and correct me if im wrong, but gopro sells straps and mounts specifically for helmets, right?

Bell is making a bike helmet with integrated camera mounts.

Yes much better said. attaching any kind of mass to your helmet for any reason is limiting the performance that that it was designed for. perhaps manufacturer like Bell could design a helmet specifically for mounting cameras to, but the standard motorcycle, Ski, bike helmet is designed to work in a very specific way from the manufacturer. this is not specific to GoPro cameras it includes your bluetooth rider communication devices, decorative mohawk, and even petroleum-based cleaners. yes I'm the kind of person that likes to read every page of my insurance policy and that might be boring but understanding how these things are designed to work is worth your life. don't get me wrong I'm a huge photo nerd and love these action videos as much as the next guy understanding the tradeoffs and safety should be a priority.

if you've ever worked in a hospital here in the states you know that our privacy laws are no joke. after what happened to the air ambulance in this very same case I can imagine that privacy surrounding the incident would be heightened. that being said I'm all for transparency and all things and also would like to see that video. mostly because I'm a voyeur.

Experts from ENSA, the world-renowned ski and climbing academy in the French ski resort of Chamonix, have conducted tests to determine whether the presence of a solid object between a helmet colliding with a rock would weaken the structure.

The helmet smashed – but the camera he had attached to it, in order to record him and his son skiing, was undamaged. The footage, audio and visual, has provided police with crucial information about the crash.

"The helmet completely broke. It was in at least two parts. ENSA analysed the piece of the helmet to check the material, and all was OK," said a source close to the investigation.

"But why did it explode on impact? Here the camera comes into question. The laboratory has been testing to see if the camera weakened the structure."
